Could therapeutic horseback riding be fun and beneficial for my child?
At Enfants en Équi-Libre, our riding instructors are certified by the Canadian Therapeutic Riding Association (CanTRA). They have specialized training in the adaptation of this activity so it is safe, fun, and challenging for each rider.
A variety of clients, with or without a diagnosis, who are minimally autonomous can participate in our therapeutic riding program.
Therapeutic riding is an equine assisted activity with the purpose of contributing positively to the cognitive, physical, emotional, and social well-being of individuals with special needs. Therapeutic riding includes a number of beneficial equine activities that involve handling the horse, grooming, riding, driving and vaulting. These activities provide the child with opportunities to increase self awareness, work on behaviours, improve self-confidence, gain independence, work as a team, and develop a sense of achievement among many other intra- and interpersonal abilities. The aim of therapeutic riding is the development of equine related skills for individuals who learn differently due to cognitive, communication, or motor differences; any gains that occur in functional life skills are a secondary benefit.
As part of our interdisciplinary approach to all our programs, a qualified health professional can work with our therapeutic riding instructors to set objectives for each rider individually in order to optimize growth and success while riding.
